A rate marked “no change” means the agency has confirmed that the current rate continues, for example because an inflation formula or a legal condition produced no increase.

Why most rates change on January 1 or July 1

Many states with their own minimum wage adjust it every year for inflation, usually by the change in a consumer price index over the previous year. Their labor departments calculate the new rate and publish it a few months before it takes effect: most January increases are announced between August and November, and most July increases in the spring. Other states raise the rate in fixed steps written into law, often ending at a target such as $15 an hour, after which inflation indexing begins.2

Cities and counties follow the same patterns. Many California cities announce their January rates in the autumn, while Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and others change on July 1.

Rates that are not announced yet

If a place indexes its rate but has not published the new figure, its page says so and does not guess. These places have a change due on a known date whose amount had not been published when this page was built:

When an announcement is published, we add it to the table above and to the page for that place, with the source. The federal rate is fixed in the Fair Labor Standards Act, and no change has been enacted.1

Increases already set for 2028 and later

A few places have fixed rates beyond 2027 in a statute, ballot measure or ordinance. They are listed as set in law: the amounts are scheduled rather than announced, and a later law, a court ruling or an inflation formula written into the same measure can still change them. Each place’s page cites the law that sets them.
