Oregon minimum wage 2026
The minimum wage in Oregon is $15.55 an hour in 2026 (Standard rate, most of the state). Oregon has three regional rates, and an employer's location decides which applies: the Portland metro area pays $1.25 above the standard rate, and 18 rural counties pay $1.00 below it. All three change on July 1, not January 1, and follow national inflation each year.

What to know about the Oregon minimum wage
Oregon's three-region system dates from Senate Bill 1532 in 2016, which gave up on a single statewide figure. The law set fixed increases through July 1, 2022, with the Portland metro rate highest and 18 nonurban counties lowest.2 Since July 1, 2023 the standard rate has been adjusted each July 1 for inflation, and the other two rates move with it: the Portland metro rate stays $1.25 above it and the nonurban rate $1.00 below.
The adjustment uses the national consumer price index for March to March, rounded to the nearest 5 cents, and the Bureau of Labor and Industries announces it by April 30. For July 1, 2026 the increase was 3.3%, taking the standard rate from $15.05 to $15.55, the Portland metro rate to $16.80 and the nonurban rate to $14.55; the Bureau announced it on April 23, 2026.1
The rate that applies depends on where the employer is located. The nonurban rate covers Baker, Coos, Crook, Curry, Douglas, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Jefferson, Klamath, Lake, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa and Wheeler counties;3 the Portland rate covers employers inside the metro urban growth boundary. Oregon allows no tip credit at any of the three rates, even for employers covered by federal law.4 Cities and counties cannot add a fourth rate: ORS 653.017 preempts local minimum wages for private employers.5

Oregon does not allow a tip credit at any of the three rates.

|---|---|
| Daily overtime | After 10 hours a day only in nonfarm canneries, driers, packing plants, mills, factories and manufacturing establishments |

Time and a half after 40 hours a week. Workers in nonfarm canneries, driers and packing plants, and in mills, factories and manufacturing establishments (except sawmills, planing mills, shingle mills and logging camps), also get overtime after 10 hours a day.
Overtime at the minimum wage of $15.55 is $23.325 an hour. Salaried managers, administrators and professionals are exempt from overtime only if they meet the duties tests and are paid at least the exempt salary. See overtime rules in every state or calculate pay with overtime.
How the rate changes
A 2016 law, Senate Bill 1532, set fixed steps through July 1, 2022. Since July 1, 2023 the standard rate rises each July 1 by the March-to-March change in the national Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), rounded to the nearest 5 cents; the Portland metro rate stays $1.25 higher and the nonurban rate $1.00 lower. The Bureau of Labor and Industries announces the new rates by April 30.
Indexed to inflation: yes. Adjusted each July 1 by a set inflation formula; the Portland metro rate is higher and the nonurban county rate lower.7
Rate history
Who is covered
The minimum wage covers most private and public employers in Oregon. The rate depends on where the employer is located: inside the Portland metro urban growth boundary, in a nonurban county, or elsewhere.
- The July 1, 2026 increase was 3.3%, following the rise in the CPI-U from March 2025 to March 2026; the Bureau of Labor and Industries announced it on April 23, 2026.
- The three-region system was created by Senate Bill 1532 in 2016.
- The Bureau of Labor and Industries publishes free updated minimum wage posters for each July 1 change.
Cities and counties
Cities and counties may not set a general minimum wage (ORS 653.017). They may still set pay for their own employees, in public contracts, and as a condition of tax breaks or subsidies to private employers with 10 or more employees.
