Wyoming minimum wage 2026

The minimum wage in Wyoming is $7.25 an hour in 2026. Wyoming's statute sets a minimum wage of $5.15 in 2026, below the federal rate, so every employer covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act pays the federal figure instead. The state figure reaches only jobs outside federal coverage, and W.S. 27-4-201 excludes several groups from it entirely.

What to know about the Wyoming minimum wage

Wyoming's own minimum wage, set in W.S. 27-4-202, was $5.15 an hour in 2026, two dollars and ten cents below the federal rate, and the statute has no inflation adjustment.1 Any employer covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act must pay the higher federal $7.25, which has applied since July 24, 2009, so the federal figure governs the great majority of Wyoming jobs.3

The state rate matters only for employment that federal law does not reach, and W.S. 27-4-201 narrows that group further. It leaves out farm workers and private domestic workers, executive, administrative and professional employees, federal, state and local government employees, nonprofit volunteers, outside salespeople paid only by commission, and on-call ambulance drivers.1 A worker who is outside federal coverage and in one of those groups has no minimum wage under either law. State law also allowed $4.25 an hour in 2026 for workers under 20 during their first 90 consecutive days, provided the employer does not displace other employees to use it.1

Wyoming's statute sets its own tipped rule: an employee who receives more than $30 a month in tips must be paid at least $2.13 an hour (the figure in 2026), and the employee must give the employer monthly records of daily tips.1 The Department of Workforce Services' Labor Standards office handles claims under state law, with offices in Cheyenne and Casper,2 while claims under the federal law go to the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. Wyoming law does not expressly address local minimum wages, and no city or county has adopted one.
